Motivational Interviewing

What is Motivational Interviewing?

Motivational interviewing is a specific type of talk therapy that focuses on change. It is a directive, client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. Motivational interviewing is for the client who doesn’t want to engage in traditional therapy, but really want more of a coaching type of approach to help get them to where they need to be. It is solution-focused and the goal is change.

What is it helpful for?

  • Turning struggle to strength in making changes
  • Finding your voice and motivation
  • Getting started with something new
  • Figuring out where and why you are getting stuck

Helps in Treating:

This type of counseling is meant for the client who wants short-term solution focused therapy with meeting a goal. It helps you get to the point of starting, working through it, and completing the task at hand. You will also process the feelings that go along with it.
