What Is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)?

DBT is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy. It works to remove destructive patterns and replace them with healthier habits. It is skills based and has been proven effective in a variety of disorders and populations. DBT covers four main areas including:

  1. Mindfulness
  2. Emotion Regulation
  3. Distress Tolerance
  4. Interpersonal Effectiveness

Within each of these four categories, there are different skills that will be implemented and used by the client to take control of their life and how they are feeling.
